Last Rites Held for Leonard Sparks At Church Wednesday

Funeral services were held from the Congregational (Log Church) Church in Brewster on Wednesday afternoon, for Leonard James Sparks, well known Brewster businessman, who died early Sunday morning in a Wenatchee hospital, following a brief illness.

Rev. R. E. Beatty officiated and Miss Kay Goehry and Mrs. Hilliard Smith sang a duet accompanied by Mrs. George Wilson. The following friends served as casket bearers: G. C. Rumbolz, Fred Rawley, Horace McAroy, Leonard Holt, Karl Clendenin and Eli Driessen. Interment was in the Locust Grove cemetery, Brewster. Jones & Jones of Wenatchee were in charge of funeral arrangements.

Mr. Sparks, 49, was born December 15, 1898 at Holdridge, Nebraska. He resided in Nebraska and Kansas until 12 years of age. He moved with his parents to Red Willow, Alberta, Canada, in 1911. He resided there and attended school until 1919, when he came to Anacortes, Washington. He moved to Wenatchee in 19119, where he was employed by the Columbia Ice and Cold Storage Co.

He was married to Dorothy Hyde on August 4, 1928. They moved to Brewster in 1929. He has been distributor for the Washington Chief Products.

Besides his widow, Dorothy, he is survived by his father, William C. Sparks, one son, Terry, and one daughter, Sallie Sparks, all of Brewster; five brothers, Arthur, Grant and Glenn Sparks, all of Anacortes, Beryl Sparks of Benton City, Melvin Sparks of Concrete, Wa., three sisters, Mrs. Earl Townsend of Anacortes, Mrs. Donald Hyde of Brewster, Mrs. Robert Auger of Concrete, Wa.
