Joseph and his wife Nancy was interred on the Rountree Cemetery in Greene County, MO. and was re-interred in this Bowers. I do not know the reason for the moving of the bodies.

The son of Thomas and Eva Sturgess/Sturgis Rountree.
The b. 1782 Joseph Rountree's parents were Thomas and Eva Sturgess/Sturgis Rountree



He was a school teacher in North Carolina, Tennessee, and Missouri. He married Nancy Nichols in 1806 in Caswell County, North Carolina. The couple had 10 children with 2 dying as infants. Children who lived to adulthood include: Junius M.; Zenas M.; Lucius A.; Louisa A. who married Dr. Slavens of Dallas County; Caroline who died young; Judge M. J.; Almus L. who served as sheriff of Santa Cruz County, California; Allen J. who died at age 22; Almarinda C. who married William Massey of Springfield.
Rountree moved from N.C. to Maury County, Tennessee in 1819 and lived there about 10 years. He explored available lands and moved his family in 1830 to Wilson's Creek 3 miles southwest of Springfield, Mo. He grew the first fruit orchards in the area and also sold general merchandise out of a store he built.
