OBITUARY: February 13, 1941 - Vindicator and Republican, Estherville, Iowa

Mrs. Wickens Died Tues.

Passed Away at Her Home in Estherville Following Stroke on Monday

Mrs. Oscar Wickens, 68, passed away at her home on 30 south Second avenue Tuesday morning following a paralytic stroke Monday. Mrs. Wickens had apparently been in good health preceding her stroke and her death was sudden and unexpected.

Together with her husband Mrs. Wickens moved to Estherville eight years ago after they had retired from the farm. Although her social activities and interests were confined to her immediate neighborhood Mrs. Wickens had made many friends since coming to this city. She was a great lover of flowers and gardening and her flower garden was one of the beauty spots of the neighborhood in the summertime.

Susie Heaton was born in Sterling, Ill., on Sept. 12, 1873. She came to Iowa in 1908 locating at Galva. On April 28, 1908, she was united in marriage with Oscar Wickens at Galva. They spent practically all their married life in Iowa, with the exception of two years in Oxford, Kans. For several years they lived on a farm near Gruver.

Funeral services were held this (Thursday) afternoon at the Sternborg funeral home with Rev. Fred Sawyer in charge. Burial was in the Oak Hill cemetery.

Besides her husband, Mrs. Wickens is survived by two sisters, Mrs. Owen Wickens of Estherville and Mrs. Bertha Miller of Tacoma, Wash., and three brothers, Albert Heaton of Waterman, Ill., Clinton Heaton of Fergus Falls.
