Mrs. Goss was born November 13, 1894, at Mackinaw, Illinois, to John and Mary Smith Kilby. In 1904, at the age of 10, she moved with her parents and six siblings to western Colorado and grew up on a farm about three miles northeast of Fruita. She graduated from Fruita Union High School in 1913 and earned a teaching degree from Western State Teacher's College in 1915.

She taught at Valley View School and Hunter Grade School, both west of Grand Junction.

She married Jacob Charley Vigo "Jake" Goss on December 23, 1917. While Ruth had known of the name Goss, she had never seen or met Jake until 1915 when her brother, Smith Kilby, married Jake's sister, Ellen Goss White.

In 1944, she returned to teaching at the Loma Elementary School. She taught a total of 21 years in Mesa County. In 1953 she received a bachelor of arts degree at Greeley State Teachers College, which was accomplished through extension courses, correspondence, and summer terms on campus.

Ruth and Jake made their home on a farm in Loma and in 1966 moved into Fruita. Mr. Goss died in 1968. Mrs. Goss recently moved into Grand Junction.

She enjoyed crocheting, reading and her volunteer work as a senior citizen.

She was also a member of the National Teachers Association, the American Association of Retired Persons, the Silver Bell Rebekah Lodge No. 115 in which she had served as secretary. She was also a member of the Highline Hustlers.

Mrs. Goss's 90th birthday was marked with a family reunion celebration at Independence Village on November 17, 1984.

Goss of Oroville, Calif.; a sister, Kate B. Lynch of Grand Junction; 17 grandchildren; and 23 great-grandchildren. A stepdaughter, four brothers, a sister and a grandson are deceased.
