Gertrude E. (Wilder) Overlan, a lifelong resident of Malden, passed away at the Glen Ridge Nursing Home on Sunday, Mar 23rd. She was born in Medford in 1912, one of 11 children to Miles S. and Kathleen (Watts) Wilder. Gertrude was raised and educated in Malden. After her marriage to Cornelius F. Overlan, the two settled down in Malden to raise their family. Over the years, Gertrude worked as a waitress in different restaurants, including Chickland in Saugus and Tricca's in Everett. She was a dedicated communicant of Sacred Hearts Parish in Malden and faithfully prayed the Rosary every day. She also enjoyed knitting, was an avid bowler for many years, and was a dedicated Red Sox Fan.

She is survived by her children, Jacqueline Russell of Concord, NH, and Joyce Minasian of Lynnfield, her sister Margaret Smith of CA, her son-in-law Joseph Symonds of Malden, 15 grandchildren, 29 great grandchildren, 5 great great grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews.

Gertrude was preceded in death by her husband Cornelius, her daughters Joan Marie Hampton and Judith Ann Symonds, her son Neil Arthur Overlan, and her siblings, William Wilder, Roland Wilder, Miles Wilder, Charles Wilder, Leah Leary, Alice Brooks, Sarah Donnelly, Mary Cersosimo, and Kathleen Lacey-Larson.

Funeral services will be held from the Weir-MacCuish Golden Rule Funeral Home, 144 Salem St, Malden on Saturday, March 29th, at 10:00 AM followed by a Mass of Christian Burial in Sacred Hearts Church, 297 Main Street, Malden, at 11:00 AM. Interment to follow in Forestdale Cemetery. Visitation will be held at the funeral home on Friday, March 28th, from 4PM – 8PM.
