Dau. of Nicholas and Catherine (Snapp) Pittman, Catherine was born ca. 1765 in the Shenandoah Valley of Virginia near Strasburg, married Johannes Schneider (John Snider) 23 Dec 1788 in Virginia, and emigrated to Harrison County, Indiana in 1809 with her brother John Pittman and wife Elizabeth (Mauck). They settled on a quarter-section of land situated immediately NE of that settled by her brother John (the latter on which Hottell Cemetery is located). Catherine and her brother John were first cousins to David Pitman, who settled in Spencer Township.

Catherine died before 1830 and husband John died before Feb 1837. Though no stones exist for either, I suspect both are buried in Hottell Cemetery because a) that cemetery was in existence and referenced in her brother John's Last Will and b) many of their descendants are buried there suggesting the cemetery was a sort of family cemetery. More information is available in Catherine and John's family history.
