Born August 21, 1915, in Junction, he was the son of John Franklin and Effie Laura (Butts) Highsmith.
Milton was a farmer/rancher, an avid hunter, was retired from the Texas Highway Department, and had worked as a fireman at the navigation school in Hondo.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife of 70 years, Evelyn Lucille (Koch) Highsmith; daughter, Barbara Highsmith Lukes; brothers, Lindsey Franklin, Willis Monroe "Bill", Julius Edwin "Dooley" and Johnny "Junior" Highsmith; sister, Effie Lee Reavis; and granddaughter, Karla Rae Highsmith.
He is survived by his sons, Ray and wife Brenda of Houston, James "Jim" and wife Janice and Claude "Fletch" and wife Dee, all of Hondo; daughter, Kay Passmore and husband Ricky of Pleasanton; sister, Agnes Faye Reavis of Uvalde; and brother, Noel R. "Jack" Highsmith of Hondo.
He is also survived by grandchildren: Lisa Barhorst and husband Warren, Monte Highsmith and wife Holly, all of Houston; Sarah Burk and husband Glen of Rankin; Scott Highsmith of Austin; Christie Wiginton and husband Mark and Melanie Highsmith, all of Kerrville; Samantha Shobe of San Antonio; Robert Lukes and Jeanine Lukes, both of Pacific, WA; John Lukes and wife Nisa of Thailand; Michael Barber of Sanger; Gary Barber of Denton; and Elizabeth Simpson of Houston; and 18 great-grandchildren.
