Merita Roberts, age 88, passed away at her home on Thursday, April 4, 2019. She was born in 1930 in Mobile, Alabama, and raised in Bayou La Batre and Belle Fontaine, Alabama in her early years. Known for many years of service to her community and church, Merita was a dedicated lady to her friends and family. Throughout her lifetime, she enjoyed raising money for her church and many different local community non-profit organizations. As a manager and bookkeeper, her greatest joy was helping others succeed in life. To Merita, life was a gift to celebrate and share with others. She loved cooking, entertaining, and animals, especially her latest little dog, Daisy. Against many adversities in her life, she remained kind and resilient. When the odds were against her, she persevered with courage and tenacity. Having lived a very fulfilling and memorable life, she is remembered for her grace, wisdom, patience and mostly her gratitude for life. A special thanks to Jessie and Chelcey of Kindred Hospice for their loving care of our mother during her illness. Merita is preceded in death by her parents, Guy and Sula Bosarge; her husband of 51 years, George Marion Roberts; sisters Mary Dixon, Marty Robinson, and Bronis Havard; and brothers Edward Bosarge and John Brewer. She is survived by her daughters Charlotte Johnson of Turnerville, Alabama and Marilyn (Jean) Roberts of Mobile, Alabama; grandson Derek Johnson of Nashville, Tennessee; sisters Betty Moses, Anne Templeton, and Jackie Nelson; brother Arthur Brewer, and many nieces and nephews. A visitation for Merita will be held Sunday, April 7, 2019 from 5:00 P.M. until 7:00 P.M. at Radney Funeral Home-Saraland. Funeral services will be held on Monday, April 8, 2019 at 11:00 A.M. from the Chapel of Radney Funeral Home-Saraland, 1200 Industrial Pkwy. Saraland, Alabama with Bro. Donnie Williamson officiating. Interment will immediately follow services at Forest Lawn Memorial Gardens in Saraland, Alabama. Serving as pallbearers are Arthur Brewer, Johnny Nelson, Robin Nelson, Brent Brewer, Scott Nelson, and Derek Johnson.
