Earl was the son of Boyd and Maggie King Osborne. He and his brother, Bascom, both served as PVTS in U.S. Army during WWI. After the war, the brothers returned home to Garrard County.
Bascom moved to Lexington and boarded in the home of William and Bertha Loman Durham. The Durhams divorced and Earl married Bertha on May 2, 1922.
They made their home in Lancaster. Earl helped to raise Bertha's children by her previous marriage, James William and Edna Durham, and they adopted a daughter, Mary Rose Osborne.
Earl had contracted T.B., while serving his country, and was troubled by its effects for years. His primary cause of death was thrombosis, with a secondary cause of pulmonary tuberculosis.
