Mary Estella, daughter of David and Hannah Atkins, was born July 12, 1877 on their homestead near Jewell City, Kansas. She spent her entire life in Jewell county with the exception of nine years in Rooks county Kansas.
Her life expired on May 19, 1947 at St. Joseph's hospital in Concordia Kansas, at the age of 69 years, 10 mosths and 7 days.
Early in life she was united with the Methodist church. All through life's sorrows and hardships her faith never failed.
On December 9, 1901 she was married to Frank Rogers. This union was blessed with eight children. An infant son preceded his mother in death. Those who are left to cherish her memory are her loving husband, two sons. Rexford of Caldwell Idaho; Arden of Aurora, Nebraska; and five daughters, Thelma Bell of Aurora, Nebraska; Alma Kennedy and Elizabeth Keen of Esbon, Kansas; Alice Lewis of Ionia, Kansas; and Frances Thompson of Red Cloud, Nebraska; besides 14 grand children and one step granddaughter, two sisters and two brothers, besides a large circle of friends and relatives.
She has been more than just a wife and mother. She has been everything it takes to make a perfect home. No task was too small or too large for her to undertake for frends or loved ones. Through the last four years of failing health she has been a patient sufferer, but her sense of humor was never lost. She was a true pioneer woman, brave, loving and unselfish. She enjoyed her old friends as she enjoyed making new friends. She will rest in the family plot in the Ionia cemetery.
