Adrian E. "Gyp" Craun, 83, died at 6:08 p.m. Sept. 5, 2009, at The Ridge at Shawnee, Lima.

He was born April 2, 1926, in Lafayette to William A. and Geneva T. Tidd Craun, who preceded him in death. On Dec. 6, 1947, he married Janette Stoner, who died July 12, 1999.

Mr. Craun was a retired carman for the Norfolk Southern Railroad in Lima where he worked for 44 years. He was a U.S. Navy veteran of World War II, where he served as a first pharmacist's mate in Guam and Saipan. He was a life member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 1275. He enjoyed watching the Atlanta Braves on television. He was a loving husband, brother, father and grandfather, and will be missed greatly by his family.

Survivors include two sons, Michael A. (Phyllis) Craun and Jon A. Craun, both of Lima; a daughter, Adria J. (Jim) Nichols, of Lima; a sister, JoAnn (Merlin) Brogan, of Lima; five grandchildren, Sean, Kim, Matthew, Diane and Sheena; two stepgrandchildren, Justin and Crystal; 11 great-grandchildren; two stepgreat-grandchildren; and his little four-legged companion in life, Toby.

He was preceded in death by a son, Adrian K. "Kit" Craun; and an infant brother.

Services will begin at 10 a.m. Wednesday at Chiles-Laman Funeral Homes, Shawnee Chapel. Pastor Scott Landes will officiate. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery, Lima, with military rites by VFW Post 1275.

Friends may call from 5 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.
