James and Martha's second child was Elizabeth who married Jackson Steward in Feb 1827.Jackson was the first sheriff of Mitchell Co.NC. Jackson was a veteran of the Mexican War. He was murdered at upper Cub Creek & Roan Mt. Road intersection, at a place called Jackson's rock,named after Jackson Stewart while attempting to arrest some of the Gouge brothers who were horse thiefs from Tenn. Jackson was the brother of (The famous episode of )Frankie Stewart who married and murdered her husband Charlie Silver from Kona, Mitchell Co.NC.
