Gene Frances Bean, of Sullivan's Island, died peacefully September 5, 2009 surrounded by her loving family.

Born February 9, 1928 in Charleston, she was a daughter of the late Herman Christen and Mary (Normoyle) Grube.

Mrs. Bean was a graduate of Bishop England High School and St. Francis School of Nursing. She was a retired nursing supervisor with St. Francis Hospital after many years.

She was a member of Stella Maris Catholic Church. Mrs. Bean will be deeply missed by many family and friends including her husband of 58 years, William J. Bean, Jr., six sons, William J. Bean, III and wife Beth of Mt. Pleasant, Michael Grube Bean and David Anthony Bean, both of Sullivan's Island, Patrick Joseph Bean and wife Missy, Brian Willard Bean and wife Jackie, and Kevin Thomas Bean all of Mt. Pleasant; a daughter, Deborah Bean Cowart and husband Chris of Florida; a sister, Mary Ellen Grube Hudson; a brother, Herman C. Grube; six grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her sister, Barbara Bean Cameron.

Interment was in Mt. Pleasant Memorial Gardens.
