Deceased Name: Ivan Leslie Hobson , Jr.
Ivan L. Hobson, age 77, of Bountiful, Utah, previously from Salt Lake City and Dallas, Texas, died May 9, 2002.
He was born March 29, 1925 in Springfield, Massachusetts, to Ivan L. and Anna Macbeth Hobson. Married Barbara Bullock, December 22, 1948,
in the Alberta LDS Temple. They had four children. She passed away October 3, 1977. He married Ruth Rawlings Nash in the Salt Lake LDS Temple on February 11, 1980.
He received his BS and MS degrees from Brigham Young University, majoring in economics/ political science. As a Marine, he served during World War II in two Pacific Island invasions, receiving wounds in both actions. He returned as a civilian to Okinawa, Ryukyo Islands, with his family for three years in the early 1960's. He served with the U.S. Civil Administration of the Islands in reestablishing their economy. He always had a love for family, church and country and the principles for which they each stood. Ivan was an active High Priest in the LDS Church, serving in various callings which included stake president, regional representative and the first president of the Dallas Texas Temple.
Survived by his wife, Ruth, and four children: son, Scott Hobson, Salt Lake; daughters, Mrs. Lyale (Leslie) Marr, Mrs. Ralph (Carol) Peterson, both of Richardson, Texas; and Mrs. Jeffery (Gwen) Diehl, Lakewood, CO. Also survived by step-sons Bryan (Connie) Nash, Salt Lake City; Malcolm (Wendy) Nash, Richfield; and step-daughters, Mrs. John (Sherlene) Clark, Bountiful; Mrs. Jeffrey (Ruth Ann) Van Wagoner, Gilbert, AZ; and Mrs. Brent (Judy) Richey, Salt Lake City. Other survivors include 30 grandchildren and three sisters, Jean Rowley, Richfield; Alma Bonner and Shirley Hyde, both of Salt Lake City.
Funeral services will be held Monday, May 13, 2002 at 11:00 a.m., at the Bountiful 23rd Ward, 2200 S. 650 E. (Davis Blvd to 2150 S., turn East to 650 E.). Friends may call Sunday, May 12th, from 6-8 p.m. at Larkin Mortuary, 260 E. South Temple, Salt Lake City, and from 9:30-10:30 a.m. prior to services at the Ward. Interment: Salt Lake City Cemetery.
