Siblings: Nathan B. Osborn, Jr. and Madeline Hamilton Osborn (Franklin)
Spouses: William Thomas O'Neal, James Merrigan and Carl Frank Grill
Children: Patricia Medeline O'Neal, Lucretia Ellen O'Neal and Charles Minard (Merrigan) Grill
This is my mother. She was born and raised in the small rural community of Okisko. When her grandfather died, her family, along with her grandmother and a couple of aunts and uncles, relocated to the tidewater area of Virginia in search of work. She always said they were so poor that when the depression hit they couldn't tell any difference in the way things had been before. Nevertheless, her memories of those years were not dark and sad. She told many stories about her siblings and cousins, aunts and uncles, friends and especially her mother and grandmother and how they lived together at various times and always helped each other. She never forgot her North Carolina roots, however, and when her husband retired from the Navy, they moved to North Carolina where they bought a little house on Arneuse Creek in Camden County, just 'down the road and across the bridge' from Pasquotank County. Mother was delighted, she was finally back home.
She was a devout Mormon (LDS) and was proud to be called to serve a 2-year mission (in upper Michigan) in her later years. She was also a prolific letter writer who wrote to friends and family for as long as she was able.
She had 16 grandchildren and 17 great grandchildren at the time of her death and she took great delight in each and every one of them.
Grandchildren who preceded her in death:
Jeffrey Hilbert
Alan Broyles
