John B Cuneo was born on October 14, 1824 in Genoa, Liguria, Italy. He married Sarah A.E. Reynolds (1840 - 1894) on November 26, 1857 in Montgomery, Alabama. The marriage was performed by C R Barnett, Justice of the Peace.

Sarah was the eldest of eight children born to William Glenn and Nancy Reynolds; according to the 1860 Alabama Census, there were six boys and two girls ranging in age from twenty-one to one.

From this union - within 12 years time, John and Sarah had five children.

According to page 79 of 1860 Census, John B Cuneo was born in Italy and worked as a Grocer. He and his little family lived in Western Div., Pike, AL. Post Office was in Brunville, AL. John was 32, Sarah A.E. 20, and their first child, William J, was 8 months old.

Civil War Duty:
On Oct. 30, 1860, John B. Cuneo and Sarah's brother George, enlisted in General N. H. Clanton’s Battery, Light Artillery of Montgomery and Eufaula Light Artillery. He served as a Private in the Field and Staff Military Unit until the surrender of the Confederacy.

Thirty-nine year old Pvt. John B Cuneo appeared on a Hospital Muster Roll from 24 May to 31 Aug 1864 as a patient in Shelby Springs, Alabama on May 24th, 1864.

After the war, John and Sarah and their children lived in Pike, Alabama until the early 1880s. On May 4th, 1885, under the Homestead Land Act Treaty of 20 May 1862, John B Cuneo purchased property. (Entry Cert. # 4673, Appl. # 5987, 160.19 acres).

American Citizenship:
By Nov. 2nd, 1885, 61 year old John B. Cuneo had satisfied all the requirements under the Homestead Act of 1862 and on December 4, 1885 his request for citizenship was filed and recorded.

Notable Occupation:
John B Cuneo, his sons, and Albert Simmons Richards worked as a Carpenters on the construction of the Tampa Bay Hotel. This lavish resort hotel later became what is now Tampa University.

Death:
The New Year had barely begun when Sarah A.E. Reynolds (Susie) Cuneo (Wife of John B. and mother of William J, Carroll R., Annis S., and Lorena Celeste) died on January 9, 1894. Sarah is buried in the “Brandon Family Cemetery”, in Brandon, Florida.

John B Cuneo died July 3rd, 1905 at the age of 80. He is buried at the St. Louis Catholic Cemetery, Tampa, Florida.
