A funeral for Thomas Chernault Yeaman, a retired accountant and civic leader, will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Woody Funeral Home's Parham Chapel, 1771 Parham Road. Burial will be in Westhampton Memorial Park.

Mr. Yeaman, retired supervising accountant in charge of the Chesapeake & Potomac Telephone Co.'s division of revenues and budgets, died Monday in a local hospital. He was 87.

An Altavista native, he graduated from the University of Richmond, where he later taught economics in the evening school of business administration. He was former president of the school's Boat right Society and of the General Alumni Association and had been alumni adviser and state coordinator for Lambda Chi Alpha fraternity.

Mr. Yeaman was a former moderator of the Richmond Baptist Association and was formerly on the executive board of the Virginia General Baptist Association. He was a former Sunday school teacher and superintendent of deacons at Westhampton Baptist Church.

Mr. Yeaman began working with Boy Scouts in 1942 as a scoutmaster and was awarded the Silver Beaver for service in 1969. In 1993, he was honored by Boy Scouts of America for 50 years of service, including two decades on the staff of the National Jamboree and a stint as commissioner of the Robert E. Lee Council.

Survivors include his wife, Virginia Ranson Perkins Yeaman; a son, Thomas C. Yeaman Jr. of Richmond; a daughter, Ann Carol Malcolm of Sunbury, Pa.; a brother, Walter Holladay Yeaman of Martinsville; and a sister, Sue Britton of Roanoke.

The family suggests memorial donations to the Robert E. Lee Council, Boy Scouts of America, or the Westhampton Baptist Church Endowment Fund, 6112 Three Chopt Road, Richmond, Va. 23226.
