LANCASTER, Wis. - William K. Horsfall, 88, of Oregon, formerly of Lancaster, died after a long illness, Wednesday, March 8, 2000, at St. Mary's Hospital, Madison. Services will be at 10:30 am Friday at St. Clement Catholic Church, Lancaster, with the Rev. Tom Baxter officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Friends may call after 9 am Friday at the church. The Schwartz Funeral Home, Lancaster, is in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Horsfall was a farmer and licensed cheese maker and drove a milk route for more than 15 years. After his farming career, he went into auto mechanics in the Cuba City, Bloomington, Prairie du Chien, and Lancaster areas.

He was born on April 24, 1911, in Patch Grove, the son of Hugh and Elsie (Hammond) Horsfall. He married Dorothy Sudmeier on Nov. 26, 1935, at St. Mary's Catholic Church, Bloomington; she died on Jan. 11, 1954. He later married Arlene Krueger on Dec. 10, 1954, in Cassville.

He served in the Civilian Conservation Corps from October 1933 to December 1934, in the 160 Third Co. CCC Camp at Westboro. After retiring, he lived in Lancaster, and has lived in Oregon for the last nine years. He was an avid outdoorsman who enjoyed fishing and doing many odd jobs in the neighborhood.

Surviving are three daughters, Joanne Kaioula, Donna Horsfall, and Joyce (Harold) Taylor, all of Madison; three sons, Leonard (Donna) Horsfall, of Norfolk, Va., Ed (Judy) Horsfall, of Cottage Grove, and William "Bill" (Michele) Horsfall, of Cedar Rapids, Iowa; 23 grandchildren and 43 great-grandchildren; a daughter-in-law, Donna (Mrs. Roger) Horsfall, of Madison; three stepsons, James Holpin, of Madison, and Larry (Sharon) Holpin and Michael (Elaine) Holpin, and their families, of Oregon; and many nieces and nephews.

He also was preceded in death by his parents; a son, Roger; a son-in-law, Dave Kaioula; and two brothers, Keith and Rex. A William K. Horsfall Memorial Fund has been established.
