Born in Wilkes County, North Carolina. Residing in Wilkes County, North Carolina at the time of enlistment. Enlisted on October 4, 1861 at Wake County, North Carolina as a Private in the 33rd North Carolina Infantry, Company D at the age of 45. POW on May 1, 1863 at Chancellorsville, Virginia. Paroled on May 4, 1863. Returned to duty October 1, 1863. POW on May 12, 1864 at Spotsylvania Court House, Virginia. Confined on May 18, 1864 at Point Lookout, Maryland. Transferred on August 8, 1864 to Elmira, New York. Died of heart disease as a POW.
