Bess was the daughter of James D Deen and Mary Ann Fiveash. They are buried in unmarked graves at Wesley Chapel Cemetery in Bacon county.

Family members who remember her speak of someone with an extraordinarily sweet disposition.

She and her sister Kate Deen married two Middleton brothers: Anthony "Blenty" Middleton and Grooms Benjamin Middleton.

Since Elizabeth Deen is listed on the Appling Co. GA 1900 census as an infant in the household of James and Mary Deen; the birthdate of 1903 on her tombstone must be incorrect. Her birthday is listed as October 1899.

We do not know her precise date of birth, but she married Blenty on Oct 4, 1914. Unless her birthday was on the 1st, 2nd, 3rd, or 4th of October, it means she was just 14 years old when she wed.
