SHREVEPORT, LA - Services celebrating the life of Roland Joseph Achee will be at 1:00 p.m. Saturday, September 5, 2009 at St. Paul's Episcopal Church. Officiating will be The Rev. Guido F. Verbeck, III, Rector of St. Paul's Episcopal Church. Interment will follow in Forest Park Cemetery, St. Vincent Avenue.
The family will receive friends from 5:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. Friday evening at Rose-Neath Marshall Street Funeral Home.
Mr. Achee went into eternal rest on Monday, August 31, 2009, in Shreveport, LA at the age of 86 years. As a practicing attorney in the state of Louisiana for more than 50 years, he was affectionately given the name "NO-Pay ACHEE" as an attorney for the insurance companies, a name which his father was known by as an insurance adjuster during the depression. Mr. Achee was a member of the Committee of Professional Responsibility for ten years. He was an assistant city attorney for the city of Shreveport for many years. His entire career he led the legal community by example in morals and ethics. He loved the practice of law--it was his great passion, along with the study of the English language.
Mr. Achee was born in New Orleans on December 12, 1922. He graduated from Jesuit High School in 1939 and Centenary College in 1944. At Centenary he was in College Capers which entertained the troops. He was President of the Alpha Iota Chapter of the Kappa Alpha Order. He was editor of the Conglomerate, which was the school newspaper. He received many awards while attending, and was in Who's Who in American Colleges in 1943 and 1944.
After graduating from Centenary, he went to Mid Shipman School at Notre Dame. He served in WWII in the US Navy as Lieutenant (jg), and was in the battle of Okinawa and the invasion of Luzon. After the war he attended LSU and graduated with a law degree in 1949. While at LSU he was the editor of the LSU Law Review, and in Who's Who in American Colleges in 1949. His accomplishments were many during his practice of the law, and including receiving the Professionlism Award of the Shreveport Bar Association. Mr. Achee was one of the most respected lawyers in the state of Louisiana during his entire career.
Mr. Achee was preceded in death by his parents, Benjamin E. Achee and Marie C. Achee, and his brother, Carl Achee. He is survived by his loving wife of 54 years Jean Achee, daughter Marie Mayo, both of Shreveport, brother Benjamin Achee and wife Ida Mae of Bossier City, sister Mary E. Fortier of Baltimore, MD, grandson Christopher R. Mayfield, and great grandchildren Jaydin Mayfield, and Christopher Joseph Mayfield all of Tampa, FL.
Pallbearers will be Charles Grubb, Dale Cox, Brad Mayo, Christopher Mayfield, Michael Achee and Gordan Roundtree. Honorary pallbearer will be John E. Cox.
