He was born on April 17, 1919 in Medina Township, the son of John and Celia Mooney Boylan. He married Mary Ellen Purcell on May 4, 1946 at St. Mary's of the Woods Church in Princeville. She died on September 4, 2006 in Peoria.
Surviving are two sons, Thomas (Jan) Boylan of Mapleton, IL and James (Charlotte) Boylan of Dunlap, IL; two grandsons, Gregory Boylan of Passau, Germany and Jeffrey Boylan of Highlands Ranch, CO; one step-grandson, Todd (Julie) Brooks of Peoria; one step-great-granddaughter, Madison Brooks of Peoria; two sisters, Catherine (Hugh) Cockrill of Plains, OH and Estella Buck of St. Petersburg, FL; and nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, one daughter, Janice, one sister, Evelyn Morgan, one infant sister and three brothers, Edward, Leo and Louis.
He served in the Army as a Staff Sergeant in the South Pacific during World War II.
He retired from Sheet Metal Workers, Local #1 in 1982, serving 40 years in the trade. He also farmed near Princeville for 18 years.
He was a member of Holy Family Parish and it's Men's Club, St. Patrick's Society, Peoria County Farm Bureau, Knights of Columbus #427 Third Degree Spalding Council and #206 Fourth Degree Spalding Assembly, and American Legion Post 1078 in Dunlap.
A Funeral Mass will be at 11 a.m. on Friday at Holy Family Church with Franciscan Friars officiating. Visitation will be 9:30 a.m. until the time of the services on Friday at the church. Wright & Salmon Mortuary is in charge of arrangements. Burial will be in Resurrection Cemetery.
