She met Walter Anhalt, the love of her life, in high school. After they graduated, Walt joined the Army and Pat got her degree from the College of Medical Technology in Minneapolis. They married in 1951 and began their 57 year adventure. Their four biggest events were the births of their two daughters and two sons.
Pat managed to visit all 50 states and made 46 homes in the United States, France, Germany, Korea and St. Martin.
Pat was a proud Army wife, Navy and Army mom, and Air Force grandma. She truly believed "As long as we can love each other and remember the feeling of love we had, we can die without ever really going away. All the love you created is still there. All the memories are still there. You live in the hearts of everyone you have touched and nurtured while you were here. Death ends a life, not a relationship."
Pat is survived by her four children, Laura Lynn Anhalt, Bismarck, North Dakota; Captain Scott Timothy Anhalt, U.S. Navy (Ret); Kurt Spencer Anhalt, Long Beach, California; and Christine Catherine Benca of Troy, Alabama. She leaves eleven grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
A memorial service will be held on Friday, August 28, 2009 at 1:30 p.m. at the Commissary at Fort Abraham Lincoln, Mandan, North Dakota. Interment will be at the North Dakota Veteran's Cemetery, Mandan, North Dakota at 3:00 p.m.
