Benny Dickens Voncannon, age 63, of 1532 Sylvan Woods Dr., Asheboro died Monday, May 19, 2003 at Randolph Hospital, Asheboro.
Mr. Voncannon was a native of Cabarrus County and retired co-owner of Voncannon Trucking. Prior to his illness, he was a fomer deacon, Sunday School teacher and Lay Pastor. He played with the Los Angeles Dodgers from 1960-1962 and was a former Little League and Pony League coach for Asheboro Parks & Recreation Department.
He is survived by his wife Martha Thomas Voncannon; two sons: Benny Dickens "Bengie" Voncannon, Jr. of Randleman, NC and Eddie Voncannon of Asheboro, NC; one brother: Johnny Voncannon of Asheboro, NC; 7 grandchildren and 2 great-grandchildren.
The family will receive friends Friday, May 23, 2003 from 1-2:30 pm at Pugh Funeral Home, 437 Sunset Avenue, Asheboro, NC. A Memorial Service will be held Friday, May 23, 2003 at 3:00 pm at Pugh Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Roger Wiles and Rev. Jeremy Sink officiating.
