Low, Joe H. Passed away Thursday, August 20th 2009 in California as a result of Parkinson Disease. He was 88 years of age. Born in Austin, Texas on January 21st, 1921 to Melvin and Julia Zapalac Loewenstein Joe was an excellent student and a talented orator. Always willing to give to others, Joe served in the United States Marine Corps during World War II where he trained at Camp Pendleton and was stationed in the Pacific. After the war he returned to the great state of Texas where he attended the University of Texas in Austin and he received his B.B.A degree in 1946. Joe was an an outgoing individual who enjoyed and interacted well with people, and used that talent to move quickly up the ranks at Southwestern Bell Telephone Company. He was promoted numerous times during his tenure, and was one of the first executives to have over 200 women reporting to him. Joe retired from the company after 40 years of service in 1986 as a Vice President. Joe married Dorothy Greer, the love of his life, in 1953, and they had a daughter, Jana. They were married for 43 years, until Dottie passed away after a lengthy battle with Alzheimer's. Joe served as her primary caretaker for many years and they were deeply in love until her death. Joe soon thereafter relocated to Southern California to be close to his daughter, son-in-law and his grandchildren. He worked very long and hard to turn them all into Longhorn fans. Joe and Dottie were devout members of the First Baptist Church of Dallas where he was active in the Care Ministries, and taught Bible Study in the Junior High and Senior High divisions. They were also very involved in Mrs.. Criswell's Bible Study class for many years. Joe continued a life of service to the end where he touched many in his community. Joe did not become a Christian until he met Dottie, and his favorite scripture is 2 Corinthians 5:17 which says "Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation; the old has gone, the new has come!". Joe was also active in the Civitan Club, where he served as Chaplain and the local YMCA. Joe is survived by his daughter, Jana Low McGrath and her husband Greg and their 3 children Chase, Lauren and Faith. And the Greer Families of Abilene Texas.
