Spavinaw for the past 30 years, who passes away March 4 at her home in Spavinaw at the age of 76 years . . . . Interrment was at Spavinaw under the direction of Green Funeral home.
"She leaves her husband George N. Porter, three sons, R. E., Seminole, C. E., Long Beach, CA, and Lee of Spavinaw. Three Brothers Jim Bishop, Pawnee, Henry Bishop of New Mexico, and Math Bishop of Ozark MO. She is survived by 9 Grandchildren and 7 Great Grandchildren."
Emma was the daughter of Alfred Mckinney and Mary Ann Ingram Bishop. Her parents lived mainky inb Union County, Georgia, but for a few years they lived in Polk County, Tennessee. It was duribg this time she was born. She was one of fourteen Children--seven boys and seven girls. In the early at 1890s the Bishops moved to Southwest Missouri. It was at Lawrence County, Missiouri she married George Newton Porter on March 2, 1896. George's sister, Martha Ann Poeter married Emma's brother, James Taylor Bishop.
Emma and Newton had eight children, but only five; Roy, Bee, Clarence, Lee, and Ellen survived to marry and raise families.
