He enlisted in the One Hundred and Twelfth New York Infantry July 28, 1862,
and was discharged in April 1863, for disability, defective vision. He
re-enlisted December, 1863, in the Twenty-second New York Calvalry, receiving
his discharge in 1864. In the fall of that year he went into the United States Military Railroad Service, and continued therin until January, 1865, when he received a final discharge.
