Mamie B. Ferrier of Crawford died on Friday, April 29, 2005, at Delta County Memorial Hospital. She was 95.


An open house will be held from 2 to 4 p.m. on Saturday, May 7, at the home of Dellis and Linda Ferrier, 38520 Bone Mesa Road in Paonia.

Mrs. Ferrier was born on Aug. 2, 1909, in Hotchkiss, to James and Cora (Snyder) Watson. She spent her childhood and attended school in Crawford.

She married Grant Ferrier on Jan. 23, 1928, in Delta. He died on March 3, 2001, in Paonia.

Mrs. Ferrier was a rancher, farmer, outfitter and guide. She was a member of the Hotchiss/Crawford Historical Society and a former member of the Colorado Guide and Outfitters Association. She was an author of three books about the history of the North Fork area. She enjoyed gardening, fishing, sewing, knitting, big game hunting and spending time with her grandchildren.

Mrs. Ferrier is survived by a son and his wife, Dellis and Linda Ferrier of Hotchkiss; two daughters, Velma Warren of Anchorage, Alaska, and Wilma Jackson and her husband Norbert of Crawford; 14 grandchildren; 33 great-grandchildren; four great-great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Grant Ferrier; a son, Lilborn Ferrier; a grandson, James Ferrier; a brother; and two sisters.
