JEFFERSONVILLE -- Marie Bertha (Shangraw) Kearney, age 85, of Jeffersonville, passed away Monday, April 30, 2001, at Fletcher Allen Health Care in Burlington. She was born in Cambridge, Vt. Dec. 17, 1915, daughter of the late Arthur and Clara "Carrie" Belle (Burnor) Shangraw. She was a graduate of Cambridge High School Class of 1936 and was also a member of the Alumni Association. She resided for many years in Patchogue, Long Island, N.Y. with her husband, William Kearney, who predeceased her in 1965. She returned to her home state of Vermont in 1968. She was a former member of St. Francis deSales Church in Patchogue, N.Y., The Catholic Daughters of America and The Crescendo Club in Jeffersonville. Marie retired from IBM in 1986. The family would like to sincerely thank the wonderful staff at Green Mountain Nursing Home in Colchester for the extra special personal attention and excellent care provided to Marie over the last six years in a loving environment she comfortably called "Home." She will be greatly missed by all of those who knew and loved her.

She is survived by a son and daughter-in-law, Michael and Joy Kearney of Cresco, Pa., a daughter and son-in-law, Carolyn and Richard "Rich" Thompson of Jeffersonville; two grandsons, Bryan and Sean Kearney of Florida; a sister-in-law, Yole Shangraw of Barre, Vt.; many nieces and nephews. She was also predeceased by an infant son, James in 1940 and an infant daughter, Grace in 1943; five brothers, William Shangraw, Fred Shangraw, Timothy Shangraw, Eugene Shangraw, Harold Shangraw; five sisters, Clara Larrow, Matilda Hibbard, Rose Fredericks, Louise, Grenon, Frieda Bertrand.

Visiting hours will be held at The Hayes-Rich Funeral Home on Friday, May 4, 2001, from 11 a.m. to 12 p.m. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated in St. Mary's Church in Cambridge on Friday, May 4, 2001, at 1 p.m. with Reverend Francis Prive officiating. Burial will follow in the family lot in Jeffersonville Village Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made in Marie's memory to The Green Mountain Nursing Home Recreational Program, 1102 Ethan Allen Avenue, Colchester, VT 05446. Arrangements are by The Hayes-Rich Funeral Home, 1176 Main Street, Fairfax.
