His early pastorates were among the Southern Methodists before uniting with the Free Will Baptists in 1954 for whom he also pastored in South Carolina, Tennessee and Virginia. In 1962 he served five years as the Director of Missions Education for the Foreign Missions Department and thereafter was elected the Executive Secretary of the National Association of Free Will Baptist where he served until 1979 when he returned to the pastorate. He was a graduate of Bob Jones University and later studied at Vanderbilt University.
