Retired Edinboro dean Ralph I. Berlin dies

October 20-November 3, 1992

CAMBRIDGE SPRINGS - Ralph I. Berlin, 69, of RD 3 Cambridge Springs, formerly of Titusvile and Edinboro, died Tuesday, Nov. 3, 1992, at Meadville Medical Center.

He was born in Hydetown, Crawford County, on Oct. 20, 1923, son of the late Ralph and Letah Graham Berlin. A resident of the Cambridge Springs area for the past 2 1/2 years, Mr. Berlin was an administrator at Edinboro University, where he worked from 1963 until his retirement in 1982.

At Edinboro, Mr. Berlin was an assistant to the president and principal of the campus school. At the time of his retiremnt, he was the dean of continuing education and director of the summer sessions.

He was a 1953 graduate of Slippery Rock University, where he earned a bachelor's degree in education. He earned his master's degree in administration from Penn State University and did further graduate work at Buffalo University.

Mr. Berlin was a U.S. Navy veteran of World War II. From 1954-61, he taught high school and coached sports in Townville, Crawford. From 1961-63, he was a school principal in LaRaysville, PA.

Survivors include his wife, Jean Durfee Berlin, whom he married on June 28, 1945; a daughter, Mrs. Stanley (Jacquelyn) Kondrot of Pittsburgh; a son, Daniel E. Berlin of RD 3 Cambridge Springs; three sisters, Mrs. Lee (Beulah) Reisinger of Hydetown, Mrs. Wayne (Beatrice) Monroe of Winter Haven, Fla, and Mrs. Richard (Helen) Benedict of Pleasantville, Venango County; a brother,Orlo "Doc" Berlin of Titusville; and five grandchildren.

Friends may call at Van Matre Funeral Home, Cambridge Springs, on Thursday from2 to 4 and 7 to 9pm. The funeral service will be held there on Friday at 11 am. The Rev. Roger Johnson, pastor of Townville United Methodist Church, will officiate.

Burial will be at Kingsley Cemetery in Townville.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Cambridge Springs Public Library.
