Pearl "Marie" Hurst, of Las Vegas, passed away Sunday, Aug. 23, 2009. She was born Feb. 2, 1918, in Ivanhoe, Calif., and was an 18-year resident of Nevada.
Marie was very proud of her age of 91 years. She and her husband, Lloyd worked as a team in the small town of Yermo, Calif., to help others. They didn't have a son to play on the Pony League baseball team, but coached the team for three years. When a Cub Scout leader was needed, she became the den mother. They worked together to keep the local swimming club open.
After retirement to Banning, Calif., they helped to start Dial-A-Ride for seniors. They traveled via motor home all over our country and Canada. Marie and Lloyd celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary Aug. 2, 1987, with a large party in Visalia, Calif.
Marie was preceded in death by her loving husband, William "Lloyd" Hurst; and two sons, Robert Eugene and William Lloyd Hurst Jr.
She is survived by her daughter, Wanda Marlene Ennis; and grandson, William Thomas Ennis, with whom Marie lived in Las Vegas; daughter, Anita L. Fitt of Washington; six grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; one brother; two sisters; and many nieces and nephews.
Services will be at 1 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 3, at Desert Lawn Funeral Home & Memorial Park, in Calimesa, Calif.
