Earl W. Lamb passed away at Avow Hospice, after a short stay, on February 6, 2014.
He was 97 years old, a 4th generation Floridian, and descendent of true Florida Pioneers, with both "sides" of his family migrating to the state in the early 1830's and 1840's from Georgia.
Earl Walton Lamb was born and raised in Alva, Florida to the late Kansas M. and Ada (Green) Lamb.
He is survived by one son, Mike (Carol); grandson, Cody (fiancé Annabelle Morris); sister, Lena Gayle; daughter-in-law, Lois (wife of the late Earl, Jr.); two nieces and seven nephews.
He was preceded in death by his wife of over 50 years, Ina Mae (Underhill) Lamb in 1991; dear lady friend, Veronica "Mac" Keiper in 2012; son, Earl W. Jr.; an infant daughter; his brother, Wilford; and sister, Maretha (Lamb) Whidden.
Earl came to Naples in 1968 from Punta Gorda, FL, and managed the Naples Ready Mix plant located in town. In 1972, he started Earl Lamb and Son, Inc., and then his son, Mike and he started Mike Lamb Grading and Tractor Service in 1976. He worked with Mike until 2006, when he "officially" retired.
His gardens in Punta Gorda and Naples were legendary for years, his "escape" if you will, and he once won bragging rights for being the Okra King in Punta Gorda. His joy was in the growing itself, and he gave all of his produce away to anyone who could use it.
He was a lifetime AVID fisherman, who enjoyed deep sea and backwater fishing. One of his greatest joys was taking his grandson Cody with him, "drowning shrimp" and sharing his boyhood memories with him.
He was a very special man, and we are grateful that we had him for so long here on this earth to love and guide us.
Earl's family would like to thank the many nurses, doctors, therapists and caregivers who not only helped him during his time of need, but us as well, on this two month journey at Physician's Regional Hospitals, Pine Ridge and Collier Boulevard, Manor Care of Lakewood, and Avow Hospice.
A visitation will be held on Monday, February 10, from 10:00 a.m. – 11:00 a.m., with a service starting at 11:00 a.m., at Fuller Funeral Home, 1625 Pine Ridge Road, Naples, 34109.
Interment will take place on Tuesday, February 11 at 12:00 p.m. at Alva Cemetery in Alva, FL.
