John married Ellen Lucy Smith on 7 Sept 1873 in Stark County, Ohio. They had six children: Clara Ellen, William Ishmael, Samuel Wilson, Gertrude May, Bessie Pearl and Mary who died as a baby. In the 1900 census John is a coal miner in Pike twp, Stark Co. OH living next door to Lucy's mother (who was b. April 1821 in England and immigrated in 1849).
