Mary Florence Bridges, 72, of Oliver Springs, died Tuesday, Jan. 6, 1998, at Methodist Medical Center of Oak Ridge. Mrs. Bridges was retired from Burlington Mills in Harriman where she had worked for 29 years. She was born in the Wheat community on Feb. 23, 1925, the daughter of Oscar and Dixie Walker McNew. She had lived in the Oliver Springs area all of her life. She was the widow of Letcher Bridges. She was a member of New Fairview Baptist Church. Mrs. Bridges is survived by two daughters, Roena Ann Cothran of Loudon and Mary Jequeta Sexton and her husband, Tim, of Oliver Springs; a son, Silas Dewayne Bridges and his wife, Mary Faye, of Oliver Springs; a sister, Nell Andes of Oliver Springs; and a brother, Raymond McNew of Lenoir City. Thomas Cothran of Loudon was considered a special friend. She is also survived by nine grandchildren, 17 great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren. The funeral will be held at 1 p.m. Friday, Jan. 9, at New Fairview Baptist Church with the Rev. Kenny Bridges and the Rev. Donnie Harvey officiating. Burial will follow at the church cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 tonight, Jan. 8, at Sharp Funeral Home in Oliver Springs.
