HOWARD, VELMA LOU COOPER - age 87, of Sweetwater, passed away Sunday, March 4, 2001, at Sweetwater Hospital. She was a member of Johnson Baptist Church in Erie Community. She was a caregiver for many area children and elderly. Preceded in death by parents, John B. and Lily Bell Cooper; brothers, Woody, Dewey, and Thomas; sisters, Myra Cooper and Ruby Belcher. Survivors include son and daughter-in-law, John Reese and Marilyn Howard of Tempe, Ariz.; grandsons, Bill Howard and Jeff Howard, both of Tempe, Ariz., and Jim Howard of Washington; granddaughter, Tammy Howard of Alaska; brother and sister-in-law, Claude and Della Cooper of Loudon. Special caregiver, niece and spouse, Carol and Nathaniel Ellison. Several other nieces and nephews including beloved great niece and nephew, Lana Hickman and Randall Cooper. The body is at Kyker Funeral Home, where the family will receive friends from 6-8 p.m. Tues. Funeral service to follow in Kyker's Chapel with Rev. Ted Pegram officiating. Family and friends will meet at 10:45 a.m. Wed. for an 11 a.m. graveside service at Sweetwater Valley Memorial Park.
