Obituary

Yoakum County Review - Friday, October 13, 1933

On Wednesday, October 11, 1933, the Death Angel came to the home of Arthur Cotten, and bore away the spirit of the companion and mother in that home.
Annie Leslie Poland was born November 30, 1880. She was converted at the age of 14 and joined the Baptist Church. She was married to Arthur Cotten December 26, 1897. To this union were born 12 children, 8 girls and 4 boys, 10 of whom are living, and all married but 1. She was the grand-mother of 33 grand-children, 28 of whom survive her.
In the passing of Mrs. Arthur Cotten Yoakum loses another pioneer mother, and she is truly mourned by all. She was dauntless in spirit and strong in body until about a year ago when her health failed her. Since that time she has suffered intensely and death brought sweet release to her.
Interment was made in the Plains cemetery, with Bro. McCulloch conducting the funeral services at the grave.
The husband and all the living children, except two, were present.

Mmes. Ed Heath, Stewart Keller, and Ina Heath, and Henry Heath and family of Seminole, were here for the Cotten funeral; also Dave Heath and Robert Fillingim and their families of Lovington, New Mexico.

W.B. and Bud Cotten with their families were here from Andrews for their mother's funeral.
