Hazel Jeanette Dennis, 96, a longtime resident of Tullahoma, went to be with her Lord and Savior, Wednesday evening September 18th, 2013 at 11:00pm at Grace Healthcare in Franklin, Tennessee. She was reunited in heaven with her husband, Joe Dennis, of 44 years that preceded her in death in 1979. During her years in Tullahoma, Mrs. Dennis was involved in the community as member of the Eastern Star; a member of the Board of Directors of the Tullahoma Day Care Center and as a telephone counselor at the Tullahoma Crisis Center. She worked as a retail clerk, a cafeteria aide for the Tullahoma School System and as Manager of Don-a-Rose Apartments. Mrs. Dennis was a proud and devoted member of the First Baptist Church in Tullahoma since 1953. She was one of the oldest living members of the church. During her years of service in the church she held many positions including Sunday School and Vacation Bible School teacher, member of the Personnel, Finance, Nominating, and Baptismal committees. She had a very special kind of love that she shared with her family and friends. Always encouraging them and praying for them. She enjoyed gardening, cooking (especially her famous chicken and dumplings), good food, and special occasions celebrated with her family. In addition to her husband she was preceded in death by her parents, Elbert and Ethel Anderson of Sweetwater, Tennessee; one brother, Donald Anderson of New Market, Tennessee and one sister, Hulah Gibson of Maryville, Tennessee. She is survived by one son, Charles and his wife Cathy of Franklin, Tennessee; three sisters, Delite Grisby and her husband Lloyd of Morrison, Tennessee, Audrey Pedigo and her husband James, and Wanda Alexander and her husband David all of Sweetwater, Tennessee; one brother, William Anderson and his wife Alice Ann also of Sweetwater, Tennessee; one sister-in-law, Pauline Anderson of Oliver Springs; two granddaughters, Cherrod Barton and her husband John of Tullahoma, and Christi Campbell and her husband Jay of Lascassas, Tennessee; six great-grandchildren, Wes Barton (DaKara Hazelwood), Whitney Barton, Wendi Barton all of Nashville, Trey Campbell, CJ Campbell, and Cati Campbell all of Lascassas, Tennessee; three great-great grandchildren, Dayana Brown, Deon Calhoun, and Ariana Barton Black and many nieces and nephews. Special thanks are extended to her care givers at Grace Healthcare in Franklin and Dr. Kenneth Dodge for their care, concern and commitment to providing quality healthcare. Visitation for Mrs. Dennis will be held on Friday, September 20th, 2013 at Kilgore Funeral Home from 5:00-8:00pm. Funeral Service will be held on Saturday, September 21st, 2013 at 11:00am in the Kilgore Funeral Home Chapel with Dr. J. Herbert Hester and Rev. Jeff Anderson officiating.
