Al passed away on Friday, April 3, 2009, at Dahl Memorial Healthcare in Ekalaka.

Alfred Leslie Stieg was born on June 11, 1935, a son of Les and Cally (Cline) Stewart at Ekalaka, MT. At a young age, Al's mother and father divorced. Cally married Erwin Stieg, who adopted Al, taking the Stieg name. Al grew up in Ekalaka where he attended school, graduating in 1953. Al met Avis Elaine Brady, and the two were married in Miles City, MT on July 7, 1953. To this union three sons were born, Daniel, Darrald and Douglas.

Together Al and Avis ranched for a year near Ekalaka before moving to Tacoma, WA. In Tacoma, Al worked as a machinist for the Boeing Aircraft Corporation for sixteen years. During this time Al also taught math classes at the Washington State Penitentiary at McNeil Island. The couple then returned to Ekalaka with their three sons in 1971 and purchased the AMOCO Bulk Plant and started A & A Stieg Wholesale. They owned and operated this family business for the next twenty-eight years until their son, Doug took over. Prior to Avis' death on December 12, 2005, Al and Avis had spent the past fifteen winters in the Arizona desert. Al truly loved his family, especially his grandchildren. He enjoyed attending ball games and supporting his family at the local Bump ‘N' Run races.

Al is survived by his three sons, Daniel Stieg of Billings, MT, Darrald (Lois) Stieg of Gillette, WY and Douglas (Sandra) Stieg of Ekalaka, MT; his mother, Cally Stieg of Ekalaka, MT; two brothers, Raymond Stewart and John Stewart; two sisters, Trixie (Darryld) Kautzmann of Lake Havasu City, AZ and Ginger (Homer) Harrington of Ekalaka, MT; five grandchildren, Amanda, Michael, Ashley, Jennifer and Justin Stieg; 12 great-grandchildren and a very special friend and companion, Norma DeVall of Morgantown, WV.
