CANDLER - Marie Davis Merrell, 86, of 45 Cathy Road, Candler, died Sunday, Feb. 14, 1999, at her home.
Mrs. Merrell was born in Henderson County and was a daughter of the late James and Lillie Israel Davis. She was also preceded in death by a son, Steve Merrell in 1966 six sisters, Lila Suttles, Georgia Haynes, Addie Davis, Ruby Davis, Myrtle Nowell and Lyda Lindsey and two brothers, Grady and Raymond Davis. She had lived in Buncombe County for most of her life and was a member of Pole Creek Baptist Church.
She is survived by her husband of 67 years, Clyde Reed Merrell a daughter, Annette Merrell of Asheville a son, Mike Merrell of Candler two sisters, Ethel Nelon of Waynesville and Dorothy Allen of Asheville three grandchildren, Gary McClure of Charlotte and Salley Waters and Scott Merrell of Asheville and a stepgrandson, Nick Leatherwood of Knoxville, Tenn.
Funeral services will be held Wednesday in the Patton Avenue Chapel of Groce Funeral Home with the Rev. John T. Tiller officiating. Burial will be in Pole Creek Baptist Church Cemetery.
Pallbearers will be Jack Merrell, Richard Merrell, Johnny Penland, Dick Allen, Julian Davis and Jeff Waters.
