OBITUARY - Plain Dealer, Wabash (IN) - October 20, 1944

The death of Mrs. Abbie Hettmansperger, 62, occurred early Friday morning in the Wabash County hospital where she had been confined since last July. Mrs. Hettmansperger had been ill for more than a year.

She was born in Cumberland county, Pa., Dec. 16, 1881, to George and Emma (Coffee) Grist. She came to this county with her parents at an early age and lived for many years on a farm near Servia.

Her first marriage was to Elmer E. Slagel in Huntington county. To this union seven children were born, two of whom, a son and daughter, preceded her in death.

Surviving are the following children, Mrs. Huston Schaaf, with whom Mrs. Hettmansperger made her home, Mrs. Lola Relch, Elkhart, Mrs. Cleo Averitt, Michigan City, Herbert E. Slagel and John H. Slagel, Wabash; Mrs. Betty Bitzel, Fort Wayne, Miss Kathrine Garner, Indianapolis, and Frank Hettmansperger, Lincoln, Neb., three sisters, Mrs. Lillie Weaver, Monroe, Mich., Mrs. Effie Martin, Andrews, and Miss Ellen Hite, Wabash; 20 grandchildren and 1 greatgrandchild.

Mrs. Hettmansperger was a member of the Church of God.

The body has been taken to the Wire Funeral home where friends may call Friday evening. Services will be announced after word has been received from the son in Nebraska.
