Vernon Robert Burton passed away June 24, 2009 at Yakima Valley Memorial Hospital. Vernon was born in Locksprings, Mo. To William and Sara Burton on March 3rd, 1925. He moved to the Yakima Valley and later joined the Navy. Once discharged from the Navy he returned to the valley. Vern and Helen Fischer were married on April 24, 1946 in Granger, WA. Together they had three children.

" Skinhead " hauled cattle for many years before retiring from Flavorland in 1976.

Vern and Helen enjoyed traveling, camping, and going to rodeos. Vern volunteered many years on the Toppenish Rodeo Board and the Central Washington Jr. Livestock Show.

Vern is survived by daughters Marilyn (Stan) Manzano of Toppenish, Diane Hayes of Yakima, and Son Daryl (Sue) Burton of Oregon, one brother Jim Nelson of Alaska, 6 grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews. His is preceded in death by his wife of 58 years, his parents, 2 brothers, 4 sisters and 2 great-grandchildren.

Funeral Services will be held Monday June 29, 2009 at 11:00am. At Valley Hills Funeral Home in Zillah, burial will follow at the Zillah City Cemetery.

Valley Hills Funeral Home has been entrusted with arrangements.
