Ollie Smith Dies Of Heart Attack On Way to Work
Ollie Smith, 54, one of the best known citizens of Lanett and for 45 years a valuable employee of the Lanett Mill, suffered a heart attack Monday morning in front of the textile plant and died before he could be carried to the First Aid emergency room.
Services were conducted from the Methodist church Wednesday morning, his pastor, the Rev. Paul Gilbreath, officiating, assisted by the Rev. P. B. Baldridge. Born in Lee county May 16, 1888, Mr. Smith moved to Lanett when he was nine years old. Beloved by his neighbors and highly esteemed by his associates in the mill and a host of friends throughout the Valley, his passing brings grief to the entire community. Mr. Smith served in World War I, being a member of the 82nd division, Machine Gun company.
He is survived by his wife, Mrs. Pearl Gray Smith, and two children, Ollie Smith, Jr., and Mrs. Mary Frances Duffey; also one grandchild, four brothers, two sisters, and his mother, Mrs. Josephine Smith.
Burial was in Lanett, conducted by Johnson and Blakely, funeral directors.
