Her father was John Hollister who, for hours, secreted himself in the cold woods from the murderous mob at Hauns Mill October 1838. He died as a result of the prolonged exposure to this cold. This left 11 year old Sarah Ann without a father and her mother struggled and succeeded in bringing Sarah Ann and some of her siblings to Utah. Before they made it to Utah, they lived in Nauvoo, this is where Sarah married Phineas Howe Young on 22 Jan 1846, Nauvoo, Illinois.
Family records indicate she later married Robert Richey in 1853.
