Charles served in the U.S. Army during World War II. He re-enlisted into the National Guard and was employed full-time as Chief Warrant Officer with Company A, 632nd Division Wisconsin Army National Guard until his retirement in 1980.
Survivors include his wife, Doris (Schenzel) Annis of Merrill; two daughters, Susan Gietzel of Horicon and Christine Knipe of Milwaukie, Ore.; two sons, Peter Annis of Irma and Daniel Annis of Merrill; six grandchildren; five great-grandsons; two sisters, Muriel (Dale) Kopetzky of Merrill and Carol Jean (John) Krueger of Neenah; and three brothers, Robert (Dena) Annis and Philip (Joan) Annis, all of Merrill, and James (Yvonne) Annis of Gainesville, Fla.
Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Thursday at Trinity Lutheran Church, Merrill. Entombment will be in Merrill Memorial Park Mausoleum. Visitation will be from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. Wednesday at Waid Funeral Home, Merrill, and again from 9:30 a.m. until time of services Thursday at the church.
