The Kingsley News-Times, 2 August 1917, page 4: Died at his home in Kingsley, Franz Hopp. Deceased was born in Wandelwitz Province, Schleswig-Holstein, Germany. He was 73 years, 4 months and 13 days old. Old Frank as he was familiarly known, lived a very useful life. He was raised of a large family consisting of eleven boys and girls. At the age of 19 he was called upon to serve in the army for three years, being honorably discharged for one year when he again was called upon to serve his country in the war of 1870 and 1871 against France. He belonged to the 3rd Co., Holstein Infantry, Regiment 85. After the war he was united in marriage to Elizabeth Schwarch to which union there were born four children. In the year 1883 he moved to Pottawattamie Co., Iowa, and lived there one year when he came to Woodbury county where he resided on a farm until a couple of years ago when his wife died September 22, 1897, leaving four children. He was married to a sister of his first wife on October 20, 1899. To this union was born one child, Franz, making five children. They are John, the eldest, who lives near Brown's Valley, South Dakota, Mrs. C. Albers (deceased) south of Kingsley, Mrs. F. Florke of Pierson, Henry who lives on the old home farm and Franz who still resides at home with his mother. The deceased leaves his wife, four children, twelve grandchildren, one great grandchild and a brother John Hopp of Kingsley.
