Jesse Franklin JONES was the son of William Jefferson JONES and Rebecca Jane DANCER. He was born on Aug 14, 1888 in Ramer, McNairy Co., TN. Around 1894 he moved with his family to Pinson, Madison Co., TN. He married Amelia May WIEST, a daughter of Henry Franklin WIEST and Mary (LOGAN) WIEST on May 30, 1908 in Pinson, Madison Co., TN. They made their home on Belmont Street in east Jackson, Madison Co., TN.

Jesse had always loved trains and he became a fireman and engineer for the GM&O Railroad, which later became part of the Illinois Central Railroad. He most often worked on the trip from Chicago, IL to Mobile, AL. Jackson, TN was a major stop on that route.

He was tall and powerfully built, but gentle. He loved to spend time outdoors. For many years he kept dogs that he used to hunt and he enjoyed fishing.

He owned several lots adjacent to the one on which his house was built. One contained a small a farm area where he grew corn, cabbage, cucumbers, strawberries, squash, beans, peas, etc. and chili peppers. Also on his land were a large blackberry patch, a huge black walnut tree, and several bee hives. He sold honey to the local store on East Chester Street. He also had a grape arbor and a trellis with muscadines. He always had an abundance of fresh, frozen and home canned fruits and vegetables, honey, homemade preserves, pickles, sauerkraut, and occasionally wine.

A large part of his back yard was occupied by his beautiful rose garden, in the center of which was a goldfish pond and fountain. The big veranda-style front porch was lined with gardenias.

He was a devout Christian and a member of Trinity United Methodist Church in Jackson, TN. He died of heart failure on Mar 28, 1975 at Jackson Madison Co. General Hospital, Jackson, Madison Co., TN.

He was the brother of James Cecil, Mary Lillian, Willie Ben, Sarah Lessie, Elsie McCoy, Ruby Stella, Nora Blanche, Ada Pearl and Edna Ruth Jones. He was the father of William Henry, James Thomas and Mary Jane JONES. He was the grandson of Jonas Franklin DANCER and Mary Ann HIGGINBOTTOM.
