Dr. Edith W. Sechler, 93, of 17 Oxford Place, Hillsborough, N.J., died at 8:15 a.m. Sunday, Feb. 18, 2007, in Raritan Health Extended Care, Raritan, N.J.

Born Jan. 29. 1914, in Muscat, Arabia, she was the daughter of Henry Rufus Langford Worrall and Emma Hodge Worrall.

Dr. Sechler retired in 1985 after 45 years as a physician, assistant superintendent and medical director for Polk State School and Hospital.

She was a member of Polk United Methodist Church where she was active in choir, a trustee and Sunday school teacher, and was a member of the Women's Missionary Society. Dr. Sechler was Franklin's Woman of the Year in 1984 and was Waterloo Heritage Woman of the Year in 1985. She was a Girl Scout leader for 30 years and assisted with Cub Scouts and 4-H activities.

Dr. Sechler was married June 9, 1951, to James Edward Sechler, who died Feb. 18, 1986.
Surviving are one son, Dr. James L. Sechler of Pepperpike, Ohio, and a daughter, Dr. Lois E. Sechler of Hillsborough, N.J. In addition to her parents and husband, Dr. Sechler was preceded in death by two brothers, John and Charles Worrall; and a sister, Helen Paine.

Friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. today in the Robert W. Gardinier Funeral Home, 1315 Chestnut St., Franklin. Services will be held at 1 p.m. Thursday in the Polk United Methodist Church with the Rev. Lea A. Guiney, pastor, officiating. Interment will take place in Old Sandy Cemetery.
