[column 4, 2/3 way down]

— News was received here Wednesday
forenoon last of the death of Mrs. Horace
Cook, in her daughter's home, about two
miles beyond Orwell. Mrs. Cook's maiden
name was Margaret Ann Mellen. She was
born in Ellisburg March 17, 1833, and
nearly her whole life was spent in this
vicinity. At the age of 22 years she
married the late Horace P. Cook,
with whom she spent nearly a half
century of a busy life. Their hard
work procured the home a little out
of town, now the property of the
daughter, whose watchfulness and
care has been so willingly given
during the last few years of her
mother's physical and mental decline.
Two sons and two daughters were
born to these parents, all of whom
are living. Charles Cook of Richland,
Mrs. E. V. Hines of Mannsville, John
Cook and sister, Mrs. Watson Aldrich
of Orwell. There are also sixteen
grandchildren and seventeen
great grandchildren, an unusual line
of descendants. Henry Mellen of
Felts Mills is the only remaining
brother. A brief service was held at
the home near Orwell Friday morning
at l0 o'clock. Rev. C. V. Haven
conducted the funeral service in the
Methodist church at 2 o'clock Friday
afternoon, with burial in Maplewood
by the side of her husband who died
in December, 1901.
