George Beigel Sr., 68, Former Bexar Jail Guard
George Beigel Sr., 68, old trail driver and former guard at the Bexar County jail died Thursday at his home, 517 Arbor Place, after a brief illness. The funeral will be Friday at St. Agnes Church with Rev. James T. Lockwood officiating. The pallbearers will be John B. and Frank Gersdorf, G. Gerodetti, Manuel Dadema, Sam James and Jerome Barloco.
Beigel had a picturesque career. During the early days of his life he was a trail driver following the wagon trains that carried freight overland before the advent of railroads to the Pacific Coast.
He served Bexar County in various capacities for more than 32 years and only recently retired as guard at the Bexar County jail. He was succeeded by his son, George Beigel Jr.
The deceased was a member of the Anton Wenzel Lodge, Hermann Sons, and the Sociedad de la Union.
Survivors are his widow, Helen Beigel, three sons, John, Joe and George Jr.; four daughters, Misses Helen, Carrie, Christine and Mary Beigel, and a sister, Mrs. W. Bartholomae, all of San Antonio.
